My baby had his shots yesterday, when checked for his temperature under arms temperature was 96.5.Is is normal.
can someone what the normal temperature for an Infant, when taken temperature orally, under arm and rectal.
I believe that you add two degrees when you take the temp under the arm, so yes this is normal.Use a reliable thermometer to tell if your child has a fever when his or her temperature is at or above one of these levels:
100.4° Fahrenheit (38° Celsius) measured rectally (in the bottom)
99.5° Fahrenheit (37.5° Celsius) measured orally (in the mouth)

A normal temperature for a baby is that of an adult. 98.6
When taking the tempertaure under the arm, you are suppose to add a degree. So the temperature reading oyu are getting is 97.5. But, don’t worry, you just didn’t get an accurate reading under the arm. I always find it very difficult to get a reading under the arm on a baby as well.
You could try rectally, or under the arm again. Rectally, you should subtract a degree. I would just try and take the temperature again, and if its still low, then I doubt he has a fever. My son never ran a fever after his shots ever.
The temperature taken under the arm can be up to 2 degrees low in my experience. The oral temperature is more accurate and the rectal temperature is most accurate.
I would consider 96.5 under the arm ok, if the temperature was taken rectally chances are it would be 97.5-98.5 which is perfect.
I use an 8 second thermometer and have always taken my son’s temperature orally with it, under the tongue. I found under the arm to be far too inaccurate for my comfort. He has ran a fever in the past but only been 98 under the arm. If his temperature is high and I question exactly what it is I take it rectally with a different thermometer. He is 12 months now and knows how to say “ahhhh” and lifts up his tongue for me. He doesn’t keep his mouth closed so it’s not 100% accurate but closer than under the arm.
97.6 is normal according to my medical book!and rectal is 99.6

Yes this is normal. When taking a temperature you read it as stated for oral, + 1 degree for underarm, -1 degree rectally. So his temperature was 97.5. And although the national average is 98.6, my personal average is about 97.2. My mom is the same way and your son might be too. Don’t worry. Now if you’re reading over 100 there is probably something wrong (my daughter ran a lot of ear infections while she was teething)
